CLERICAL MEDICAL ANNOUNCE A THREE YEAR PERSONAL SPONSORSHIP AGREEMENT WITH ALEX TOYO TA ATLANTIC

Clerical Medical International has renewed its personal sponsorship for the Isle of Man - based racing star Alex Lloyd as he embarks on his career in the newly created A1GP motor racing championship.

CMI has previously provided financial backing for Alex’s bid to make a career in professional motor racing and has now agreed to a longer-term arrangement for the Manx-based driver, who has just turned 21. Alex recently called at the company’s Douglas offices to give his thanks to managing director David Schuster and to meet members of the CMI staff.

David Schuster said: “We have been supporting Alex for a little while but we felt it was time to confirm a new agreement where we can help him on a firmer basis now that the A1 championship has started. It has proved a good move because Alex has since gained a lot of media profile and the A1GP championship seems to have caught the imagination of motor racing fans around the world.

“Alex also clearly has a great deal of talent and CMI is delighted to be associated with him as his career takes off. We all wish him the very best of luck and will be watching very closely as the season progresses.”

Alex has had no recent race experience, and is therefore unlikely to drive in this inaugural year of A1GP, that role being carried out by his older and more experienced team mate, Robbie Kerr, but if he can gain a full season's racing in 2006, Alex is in perfect position to take over the A1GP drive later this year.

"We have been unable to raise the money required to compete in the UK or Europe, but I am hopeful of securing a seat in this year's new Champ Car Atlantic series in America" said Alex, following his succesful recent test. "We have had a number of very good offers following the test, but we need to try and secure the budget. If we can do this, it will be a fantastic platform for my career in top flight motorsport, both in the US and, later on in the year, in A1GP.

"I have to say a huge thank you to Clerical Medical, for becoming my first corporate personal sponsor. My family was able to support me through my early years, but this is no longer possible. People think that motor racing drivers get paid, but this is not the case ... only the top drivers in the world's top championships get paid, and they get paid very handsomely. But on the ladder to success, the costs are high, and I would not still be attempting to climb that ladder without the support of Clerical Medical."
