SUCCESSFUL TEST AT SAVANNAH FOR ALEX AND JENSEN MOTORSPORT IN TOYOTA ATLANTIC

McLaren Autosport BRDC Award Winner Alex Lloyd showcased his skill as he threatened the Roebling road course track record in Savannah, Georgia having completed two successful test days with Jensen Motorsport in a 2005 Toyota Atlantic on the 19th and 20th December.

The weather was a pleasant 16 degrees centigrade and so it helped make for two very enjoyable and productive days testing.

“The two days went very well”, Alex recalled, ”Jensen Motorsport were very professional and a real pleasure to work with. Engineer Adam Marchitto was very knowledgeable and helped me to learn as fast as possible how to make these cars go quickly, as they are very different to an F3000 or an A1GP car.

“I got down to a good time quickly and from then on it was just a matter of working on myself and the car to get the time down to the fastest we possibly could under the circumstances. We had a few problems with tyres and a faulty ECU, but this also gave me a chance to experience a FBMW, which was a surprisingly well-sorted well-balanced little car. A pleasure to drive.

“I’m satisfied with my ultimate time at the end of the day, all things considered, as it was just 4 tenths off the fastest time on record. I believe that on another day with the right conditions, that record would be comfortably mine. Testing this car has made me even more certain that Atlantic is the way to go for me”

Team owner Eric Jensen stated, "Alex was a real treat to work with. His feedback and technical knowledge is without question among the best we have ever experienced while working with various drivers. It is not surprising that Alex wins every shootout in which he competes, such as the McLaren Autosport Young Driver Award. We are working currently with Alex on some sponsorship with a view to having Alex join Jensen MotorSport for the 2006 season and beyond."

Jensen MotorSport team engineer Adam Marchitto stated "In fairly cold weather, Alex had a best time of 1:07:7, which is an impressive time considering the track temperature, and that Alex only had two chances on new Yokohama tires. We suspect that Alex could challenge Adam Pecorari's record (set when we tested at Savannah last December using the chicane) if we return to Savannah for another test day this off-season."
